Renton is heavily car-dependent but benefits from a highly connected regional highway system. Interstate 405 curves directly through the city, connecting it north to Bellevue and south to I-5, while State Route 167 (the Valley Freeway) connects Renton to Kent and Auburn.
Public transit is provided primarily by King County Metro (local buses) and Sound Transit (regional express buses), with a major transit center located downtown. The city is currently preparing for the future addition of Sound Transit's Stride Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.
For cyclists and pedestrians, the Cedar River Trail offers a beautifully maintained, paved pathway tracing the river from Lake Washington out toward Maple Valley. Renton Municipal Airport (Clayton Scott Field) serves general aviation and corporate jets, while Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac) is located just a few miles west.
