Geography

The Museum District is centrally located in the West End of Richmond, Virginia. Its generally accepted boundaries form a distinct urban rectangle: it is bordered by Arthur Ashe Boulevard to the east, Interstate 195 to the west, Broad Street to the north, and Cary Street to the south.

Geographically, it lies within the Piedmont region of Virginia, just west of the Atlantic Seaboard fall line where the James River flows through the city. The neighborhood is highly urbanized, featuring mature street trees, small community pocket parks, and the sprawling, manicured green spaces of the VMFA sculpture garden.
