Safety

The Museum District is generally considered one of the safer, well-patrolled, and highly walkable areas in Houston's urban core.

* **Law Enforcement:** Served by the **Houston Police Department (HPD)**, supplemented by private security hired by the individual museums and local neighborhood patrols. * **Emergency Numbers:** Dial **911** for all police, fire, and medical emergencies. Dial **311** for non-emergency city services. * **Visitor Safety Tips:** * **Auto Theft/Break-ins:** As in any major city, never leave valuables visible in parked cars. Utilize secure parking garages when possible. * **Pedestrian Safety:** While highly walkable, use designated crosswalks, especially around the busy traffic circles near Hermann Park and along the METRORail lines. * **Heat Safety:** Texas summers are dangerously hot. Visitors walking between museums should stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and utilize the district's extensive tree canopies for shade.
