Flower Mound is situated in the central portion of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, located primarily in Denton County with a small portion extending into Tarrant County. It sits in a transitional zone known as the Eastern Cross Timbers, a distinctive ecoregion characterized by dense bands of post oak and blackjack oak trees that slice through the surrounding native prairie lands.
The town is uniquely flanked by two major bodies of water. To the south lies Grapevine Lake, which provides miles of scenic shoreline, coves, and recreational areas. To the north sits Lewisville Lake. This dual-lake proximity gives Flower Mound an unusually lush and naturally rich environment for a North Texas municipality, supporting diverse local wildlife and serving as a critical natural resource.
