Government

The City of Edmond operates under a Council-Manager form of government. The City Council consists of a Mayor, who is elected at-large, and four City Council members, who are elected by the voters of the specific wards they represent. The Council serves as the legislative body, setting policy and passing ordinances.

Daily municipal operations are overseen by a professional City Manager appointed by the Council. The city provides a comprehensive suite of public services, including police and fire departments, parks and recreation management, and solid waste collection.

Notably, Edmond owns and operates its own electric utility, Edmond Electric, which is the largest municipally owned electric utility in Oklahoma. A portion of Edmond Electric's revenues is directly reinvested into the city’s general fund, helping to finance public safety, road maintenance, and parks without heavily relying on local taxation.
