Union City is located in south Fulton County in the Piedmont region of Georgia. The city lies southwest of downtown Atlanta and just beyond the main airport corridor that has helped define development patterns across south metro Atlanta. Its position near major highways makes it part of a heavily connected urban-suburban landscape.
The surrounding terrain is typical of the Georgia Piedmont: gently rolling land, modest ridges, low hills, and stream valleys rather than dramatic mountains or broad flat plains. The landscape has been extensively shaped by suburban development, roads, commercial corridors, and light industrial uses, though patches of woodland, small waterways, and green space remain.
Union City’s natural environment includes local creeks and drainage basins feeding larger river systems in the region. Soils and vegetation are consistent with the humid southeastern upland environment, historically supporting forests and agriculture before large-scale suburbanization. The city does not sit in a desert, alpine, or coastal zone; instead it occupies an inland, temperate, forested section of the southeastern United States.
