Geography

Scottdale is located in the Piedmont region of the southeastern United States, characterized by gently rolling landscapes that sit between the coastal plains and the Appalachian Mountains. It is nestled centrally in DeKalb County, bordered by the city of Decatur to the west, Avondale Estates to the south, and Clarkston to the northeast.

The community is highly urbanized and suburbanized, with an environment shaped more by human development and infrastructure than raw nature. However, it still features mature tree canopies—particularly Southern oaks, pines, and magnolias—that are typical of the Atlanta metropolitan area, often affectionately dubbed the "City in a Forest." There are no major rivers within its immediate boundaries, but the local watershed feeds into the larger South River system.
