San Jose is a major regional transportation node. The city is crisscrossed by an extensive highway system, including US-101, I-280, I-880, SR-87, and SR-85.
Public transit is managed primarily by the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), which operates light rail and extensive bus networks. San Jose is also a critical hub for regional rail, with Diridon Station serving Caltrain, the Altamont Corridor Express (ACE), Amtrak's Capitol Corridor, and soon, California High-Speed Rail. The Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system recently extended into San Jose with the Berryessa station, with future plans to tunnel through downtown. Air travel is serviced by the centrally located Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC). The city has also invested heavily in bicycle infrastructure, boasting an extensive network of off-street trails like the Guadalupe River Trail and Los Gatos Creek Trail.
