Electricity is primarily managed by the state-owned Taiwan Power Company (Taipower). The energy mix is currently heavily reliant on imported coal and liquid natural gas (LNG), though there is a massive ongoing transition toward renewable energy, particularly offshore wind and solar, as the government phases out nuclear power.
Water and sewer systems are robust, though seasonal droughts can occasionally strain reservoirs, impacting the water-intensive semiconductor industry.
Telecommunications are exceptional. Taiwan has one of the highest internet penetration rates in the world. Broadband and 5G cellular networks are ubiquitous, affordable, and incredibly fast, provided by major carriers like Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, and Far EasTone.
