Geography

Märsta lies in **eastern central Sweden**, within **Stockholm County** and the traditional province of **Uppland**. It is located north of Stockholm and not far from **Lake Mälaren**, in a lowland landscape typical of much of the Mälardalen region. The surrounding geography includes a mix of built-up neighborhoods, cultivated land, forest patches, wetlands, and transport infrastructure.

The terrain around Märsta is generally gentle rather than mountainous. Much of the area consists of rolling plains and low rises shaped by glacial processes. The region's soils and landforms reflect the legacy of the last Ice Age, with moraines, clay-rich farmland, rock outcrops, and drainage corridors. This has historically supported agriculture and later facilitated transport corridors and suburban development.

The locality is part of a broader landscape where urban and rural environments meet. Nearby natural features include forests, lakes, and shoreline areas associated with the Mälaren basin. The region does not have dramatic alpine relief, deserts, or large canyons; instead, its character comes from wooded ridges, open fields, and water-linked lowlands.

Natural resources in the immediate area are not usually described in terms of major extractive industries. The most relevant environmental assets are arable land, groundwater systems, managed forests in the wider county, and the strategic geographic position within Sweden's main population and transport belt.
