Public utilities

As part of central Colombo, the museum district benefits from the city's premier utility infrastructure.

* **Electricity:** Supplied by the **Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB)**. Power is generally stable, though the country occasionally experiences scheduled load shedding during economic or drought-induced shortages. * **Water:** Managed by the **National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB)**. Tap water is treated, but visitors are generally advised to drink bottled or filtered water. * **Gas:** Piped gas is not standard; residents and commercial kitchens rely on LPG cylinders provided by Litro Gas and Laugfs Gas. * **Waste Management:** Handled by the **Colombo Municipal Council (CMC)**, which has implemented categorized recycling (plastics, paper, glass, and organic waste) in recent years. * **Telecommunications:** High-speed fiber optic internet and 4G/5G mobile networks are widely available via providers like Dialog, Mobitel, and SLT.
