Spain's agricultural sector is one of the most productive and vital in the European Union, benefiting from diverse climatic zones that allow for a wide variety of crops. It is the undisputed global leader in olive oil production, largely centered in the southern region of Andalusia, and ranks among the top three wine-producing nations in the world (with famous regions like Rioja, Ribera del Duero, and Jerez).
The eastern seaboard, particularly around Valencia, is famous for citrus fruits, while the massive, concentrated greenhouse complexes of Almería (often called the "Sea of Plastic") supply much of Europe's winter vegetables. Livestock is also a major component, particularly pork; Spain is famous for its premium *Jamón Ibérico*. Additionally, with its extensive coastline, Spain maintains one of the largest and most active fishing fleets in Europe, deeply influencing its heavily seafood-oriented national cuisine.
