Agriculture

Given its status as a densely populated metropolis, agriculture within the city limits of Madrid is virtually non-existent, limited to a growing movement of community urban gardens (*huertos urbanos*).

However, in the broader Community of Madrid, agriculture plays a culturally significant role. The rural outskirts produce high-quality regional goods, including olive oil, garlic, melons, and anise. The region also boasts its own designated wine appellation, the *Vinos de Madrid DO*, which has gained increasing recognition for its excellent Garnacha and Albillo wines.
