Economy

Singapore possesses a highly developed, free-market economy that is routinely ranked among the most open, least corrupt, and most pro-business in the world. As of 2023, its nominal GDP stood at approximately $466 billion USD, with one of the highest per capita GDPs globally.

The economy relies heavily on an export-oriented model, taking advantage of its strategic location to act as an entrepôt. It is a major hub for global finance, wealth management, and foreign exchange trading. Singapore's deep-water port is one of the busiest in the world, serving as a critical node in global supply chains.

While the median income is high and taxation remains relatively low, the cost of living is equally steep. Singapore frequently tops lists of the world's most expensive cities, particularly concerning private car ownership and private housing. Nonetheless, robust public housing and subsidized healthcare ensure a high standard of living for the vast majority of its citizens.
