However, concerns over food security have driven the government to launch the "30 by 30" initiative, an ambitious goal to produce 30% of the nation's nutritional needs locally by 2030.
To achieve this, Singapore is pioneering high-tech, space-efficient farming methods. This includes multi-story vertical vegetable farms, indoor hydroponic facilities, and advanced aquaculture systems. While traditional farming is mostly confined to the Kranji countryside, urban agriculture is blossoming on factory rooftops and in community gardens. A small but vital fisheries sector operates, supported by coastal fish farms and facilities like the Jurong Fishery Port.
