Legislative authority is held by the Council of Deputies of the Mytishchi Urban Okrug, whose members are elected by residents.
The city administration manages local public services, including municipal housing, local road maintenance, primary and secondary education, and healthcare facilities. Because it is part of Moscow Oblast, higher-level administrative and legal frameworks are governed by the Oblast administration based in Krasnogorsk, though Mytishchi maintains a high degree of local civic activity.
