Transportation is a critical and often challenging aspect of life in Balashikha. The city is bisected by the Gorky Highway (M7) and the Nosovikhinskoye Highway, both of which experience heavy commuter traffic.
Public transit is a lifeline. Commuter trains (*elektrichki*) connect Balashikha and Zheleznodorozhnaya stations to Moscow's Kursky railway station. A major upgrade occurred with the integration of the city into the Moscow Central Diameters (MCD-4), which opened in 2023, terminating at Zheleznodorozhnaya. This acts as an above-ground metro, drastically improving train frequency and connectivity to the capital. Additionally, a vast network of marshrutkas (routed share taxis) and municipal buses shuttle residents to nearby Moscow Metro stations like Novogireevo and Shchelkovskaya. The closest airports are Zhukovsky (ZIA) and Domodedovo (DME).
