Geography

Balashikha is located on the East European Plain, directly east of Moscow. The city is built along the banks of the Pekhorka River, a tributary of the Moskva River, and its smaller tributary, the Gorenka. A defining feature of Balashikha's geography is its integration with nature; the city is interspersed with and surrounded by dense forests, including the Gorensky and Ozerny forest parks, which belong to Moscow's protective green belt.

The region sits at the western edge of the Meshchera Lowlands, an area known for its mixed forests of pine, birch, and oak, as well as its network of small lakes and peat bogs. Several picturesque bodies of water, such as Mazurinskoye Lake and numerous river ponds, provide recreational spaces for residents, though rapid urban expansion continuously pressures these natural boundaries.
