Agriculture

Due to its dense urbanization and heavy reliance on industry and residential development, large-scale agriculture is essentially non-existent within Balashikha. The city falls within a zone of podzolic soils which are generally poor for intensive farming without significant fertilization. Historically, some peripheral areas supported state farms (sovkhozes), but these lands have largely been repurposed for housing. However, many residents maintain small garden plots (dachas) in the surrounding countryside where they grow vegetables and fruits for personal consumption, and sustainable forestry management is practiced in the surrounding green belts.
