Ingushetia has a population of approximately 510,000 residents and boasts unique demographic characteristics within Russia. It possesses the country's highest birth rate and the highest life expectancy (routinely approaching 80 years). This combination results in a remarkably young and rapidly growing population.
Ethnically, the republic is highly homogenous, with over 94% of the population identifying as ethnic Ingush. Small minorities of Chechens and Russians make up the remainder. The predominant religion is Sunni Islam, heavily influenced by traditional Sufi brotherhoods, which play a central role in the spiritual and social life of the community. Both Ingush—a Northeast Caucasian language—and Russian are spoken fluently by the vast majority of the population.
