Weather & climate

Pala experiences a Tropical Monsoon climate (Köppen classification: Am). The weather is generally warm and humid throughout the year, with temperatures typically ranging from 23°C (73°F) in the cooler winter months to 34°C (93°F) during the peak of summer in April and May.

The town receives heavy rainfall, averaging over 3,000 mm annually. The Southwest Monsoon (Edavappathy) brings torrential rains from June to August, while the retreating Northeast Monsoon (Thulavarsham) brings significant afternoon thunderstorms in October and November. Because of its location in the Meenachil river basin, low-lying areas of Pala are occasionally susceptible to mild flooding during extreme monsoon downpours. The best time to visit is from December to February, when the weather is relatively dry, cool, and pleasant.
