Transportation

Utrecht is widely considered the central junction of the Netherlands. Utrecht Centraal is the largest and busiest railway station in the country, providing high-frequency connections to every major Dutch city, as well as international destinations in Germany and Switzerland.

The province is intersected by several critical national highways, including the A2 (north-south), A12 (east-west), A27, and A28. Public transit within the province is excellent, heavily reliant on an extensive network of regional buses and the *Utrechtse Sneltram* (light rail) connecting the capital with surrounding suburbs. As with the rest of the Netherlands, bicycle infrastructure is world-class; the city of Utrecht boasts the largest bicycle parking garage in the world and an expansive network of dedicated, safe cycling paths. While the province does not have a major commercial airport, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is roughly 30 minutes away by direct train.
