Weather & climate

Amsterdam features an oceanic climate (Köppen classification: Cfb), heavily influenced by its proximity to the North Sea. This results in relatively mild temperatures year-round, lacking extreme heat or bitter cold.

Summers are moderately warm with average highs around 22°C to 25°C (71°F to 77°F), though occasional heatwaves can push temperatures higher. Winters are cool and damp, with average daytime highs around 5°C to 7°C (41°F to 45°F). Frosts occur, but sustained freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall are relatively rare.

Rainfall is distributed fairly evenly throughout the year, meaning the city can be overcast and damp in any season. Humidity is generally high, and coastal winds can make winter temperatures feel colder. The best time to visit is during the spring (April to June) when the nearby tulip fields are in bloom and rainfall is statistically lower, or early autumn (September) for mild, pleasant weather.
