Economy

Tehran Province is the economic engine of Iran, accounting for roughly 30% of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). It is the center of national finance, industry, corporate headquarters, and government administration.

The public sector is the largest employer, given the concentration of government ministries and state-owned enterprises, including the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC). However, the private sector is also highly developed compared to the rest of the country, featuring robust retail, real estate, and technology markets.

The cost of living in Tehran Province, particularly in the city of Tehran and the northern Shemiranat region, is the highest in Iran. Decades of economic sanctions and domestic inflation have heavily impacted purchasing power and exacerbated a stark wealth divide between the affluent northern neighborhoods and the working-class southern suburbs.
