The city's infrastructure is well-developed but faces acute environmental challenges. The electrical grid is reliable, largely powered by regional thermal power plants. Telecommunications are highly advanced, with widespread 4G/LTE mobile coverage and expanding fiber-optic broadband networks.
The most critical infrastructure challenge is water management. Isfahan relies on the Zayandehrud and the Kuhrang tunnel (which transfers water from the Karun river basin). Due to industrial demand, upstream agricultural use, and drought, the riverbed in Isfahan is frequently dry, prompting protests and necessitating emergency municipal water management protocols.
