Weather & climate

Fars Province experiences three distinct climatic zones due to its varied elevation: * **Mountainous North and Northwest:** Features cold winters with significant snowfall and mild, pleasant summers. * **Central Region (including Shiraz):** Enjoys a temperate, semi-arid climate (Köppen *BSh*). Winters are cool with occasional rain, while summers are hot and dry. * **South and Southeast:** Experiences very hot, arid summers and mild winters, bearing similarities to the Persian Gulf climate.

Average temperatures in Shiraz range from a high of around 38°C (100°F) in July to lows near 1°C (33°F) in January. Rainfall is relatively sparse, averaging 300-400 mm annually in the central regions, primarily falling between November and April.

**Best time to visit:** Spring (April and May) is legendary, particularly in Shiraz, when the orange blossoms (*bahar naraj*) bloom and the gardens are spectacular. Autumn (September to November) is also highly recommended. The province is occasionally prone to natural disasters, including earthquakes, droughts, and sudden flash floods in desert valleys.
