Agriculture

Fars Province is one of Iran's most productive agricultural regions, and Shiraz serves as the commercial hub for this sector. The region benefits from mountain runoff, though recent years have seen significant challenges due to severe droughts and aquifer depletion.

Shiraz and its surrounding areas are famous for their citrus orchards—particularly sour oranges and lemons. The region is also historically famous for viticulture; while the production of alcoholic Shirazi wine has been banned in Iran since the 1979 revolution, the region still produces massive quantities of table grapes and raisins. Other major agricultural products traded through Shiraz include wheat, barley, cotton, and various nuts (walnuts, almonds).
