South Jakarta is located in the southern portion of the Jakarta metropolitan area. It is bordered by Central Jakarta to the north, East Jakarta to the east, West Jakarta to the northwest, and the satellite cities of Tangerang, South Tangerang, and Depok to the west and south.
The geography is distinctly greener and slightly more elevated than the coastal plains of North and Central Jakarta. The region is crisscrossed by several major natural waterways, most notably the Ciliwung, Pesanggrahan, and Krukut rivers. These river systems, alongside numerous urban lakes and reservoirs (such as Setu Babakan), play a crucial role in the area's urban ecosystem and drainage network.
