Thrissur serves as the headquarters for the Thrissur District, hosting the district collectorate, civil station, and regional courts in the neighborhood of Ayyanthole. Politically, the city is a vibrant battleground for Kerala's major political coalitions—the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF)—along with a growing presence from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
The city is represented at the state level in the Kerala Legislative Assembly and at the national level in the Lok Sabha via the Thrissur constituency, which has historically been a closely watched and highly competitive seat.
