Widely celebrated as the 'Cultural Capital of Kerala', Thrissur is the epicenter of the state's literary, artistic, and performing arts movements. The city hosts the headquarters of three premier state cultural institutions: the **Kerala Sahitya Akademi** (literature), the **Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi** (music and theatre), and the **Kerala Lalithakala Akademi** (fine arts). Thrissur is instrumental in preserving traditional performing arts such as *Kathakali*, *Mohiniyattam*, and the percussion ensemble *Chenda Melam*.
