Located on the Malabar Coast of southwestern India, Kakkanad lies in the coastal plains of central Kerala, a few kilometers inland from the Arabian Sea. It is part of the Greater Cochin region and is situated to the east of the primary Ernakulam city center.
The geography of Kakkanad is characterized by a mix of laterite soils and wetland ecosystems. Though heavily urbanized, the area retains significant green cover, a hallmark of Kerala's lush landscape. The region is crisscrossed by a network of canals and small waterways—most notably the Kadambrayar River—which add scenic beauty and serve as important natural drainage channels.
