Emergency services

The unified, pan-India emergency helpline is **112**, functioning similarly to 911 or 112 in other nations. However, older direct lines are also still widely active and used across various states:

* **Police:** 100 * **Fire:** 101 * **Ambulance:** 102 (108 is also widely used for emergency medical response in many states)

Disaster response is coordinated nationally by the **National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)** and executed on the ground by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), which responds to floods, cyclones, earthquakes, and other natural calamities.
