Kerala's basic infrastructure is highly developed. Electricity is primarily managed by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), which relies heavily on hydroelectric power generated from dams in the Western Ghats, such as the Idukki Dam. Piped water and sanitation are managed by the Kerala Water Authority, with the state maintaining excellent public hygiene standards.
Telecommunications and internet penetration are among the highest in the country. Recognizing the internet as a basic human right, the state government launched the Kerala Fiber Optic Network (KFON) to provide high-speed, affordable, and in some cases free, broadband connectivity to households and government institutions across the state.
