Housing

Housing in Karnataka presents a sharp contrast between its booming urban centers and traditional rural villages. In Bengaluru, the real estate market is highly dynamic, characterized by high-rise condominiums, luxury villas, and expansive apartment complexes tailored for the burgeoning tech-professional demographic. Rental and property prices in tech corridors (like Whitefield, Electronic City, and Outer Ring Road) are among the highest in the state.

In tier-2 cities like Mysuru, Mangaluru, and Hubballi-Dharwad, housing remains much more affordable, with a preference for single-family independent houses, though apartment living is rapidly catching on. In rural areas, traditional homes built with local materials, featuring central courtyards (thotti mane) and sloping roofs (in the rainy coastal and Malnad regions), are common. The government runs several affordable housing schemes aimed at lower-income groups in both rural and urban areas.
