Sister cities

While France as a sovereign nation does not have "sister cities," the concept of town twinning (*jumelage*) is highly prevalent among its municipalities.

* **The Exclusive Paris-Rome Bond:** The most famous twinning in France is that of its capital, Paris. Since 1956, Paris has been exclusively twinned with Rome, Italy, operating under the motto: *"Seule Paris est digne de Rome; seule Rome est digne de Paris"* (Only Paris is worthy of Rome; only Rome is worthy of Paris). * **Global Twinning:** Almost every major French city, town, and village has sister city relationships with municipalities across Europe (especially Germany and the UK), the United States, and Asia, promoting cultural exchange, youth programs, and economic cooperation.
