Topography

The topography of Erattupetta is predominantly hilly and undulating, heavily sculpted by the river valleys of the Meenachil and its tributaries. The town center sits at a relatively low elevation of around 24 meters (79 feet) above sea level in the river valley.

Surrounding the central market area are a series of hills and elevated plateaus primarily utilized for residential development and rubber cultivation. To the east, the topography becomes dramatically steep, leading up into the Western Ghats, featuring deep ravines and forested hillsides. The riverbanks occasionally serve as minor flood plains during periods of intense monsoon rains.
