Erattupetta is governed by the Erattupetta Municipal Council, which was established in 2015 when the local body was upgraded from a Panchayat. The municipality is divided into 33 administrative wards, with voters in each ward electing a municipal councilor. The council is headed by a Municipal Chairperson.
At the state level, Erattupetta falls under the Poonjar Legislative Assembly Constituency, which sends one representative to the Kerala Legislative Assembly. At the national level, it is part of the Pathanamthitta Lok Sabha constituency. Public services, including waste management, local road maintenance, and civil registration, are handled by the municipal office located in the town center.
