Agriculture in and around Erattupetta is dominated by cash crops, with natural rubber (Hevea brasiliensis) being the undisputed king. The rolling hills surrounding the town are almost entirely blanketed in rubber plantations, which provide a steady source of income for many families.
In addition to rubber, the fertile soil and favorable climate support a variety of other crops. Black pepper, coconut, areca nut, cocoa, and nutmeg are commonly grown in mixed-crop homesteads. Subsistence agriculture also features crops like tapioca, yams, and plantains. While intensive farming is common, the focus remains heavily on commodities that can be easily transported and sold in the town's markets.
