Agriculture makes up less than 1% of Hong Kong's GDP and employs a very small fraction of the workforce. Due to the mountainous terrain and high value of land, traditional farming is extremely limited.
However, there is a small but active agricultural sector located primarily in the New Territories. This includes localized poultry and pig farming, as well as fisheries operating in coastal waters and fish ponds. In recent years, there has been a growing movement toward high-value, organic vegetable farming and urban agriculture, though the city still imports over 90% of its food, primarily from mainland China.
