Given its status as a densely populated, hyper-urbanized central business district, traditional agriculture is no longer practiced in Futian. The "blessed fields" that gave the district its name have been completely replaced by concrete, steel, and glass over the last four decades.
Instead of food production, the district focuses its environmental efforts on urban forestry, landscaping, and ecological conservation. The Shenzhen Mangrove Nature Reserve along the southern coast is a vital protected ecological zone, representing the preservation of natural flora and coastal ecosystems rather than agricultural utility.
