Bhutan's infrastructure has modernized rapidly over the last few decades. Thanks to abundant hydropower, nearly 100% of households have access to reliable electricity, even in remote villages.
Telecommunications are robust for a mountainous developing nation. The state-run Bhutan Telecom and private company TashiCell provide extensive mobile network coverage and 4G (and increasingly 5G) internet access. A nationwide fiber-optic network connects all 20 district headquarters.
Water and sanitation infrastructure has improved significantly, though maintaining piped water supplies in freezing winter conditions and rugged terrain remains an ongoing municipal challenge.
