Thimphu experiences a subtropical highland climate (Köppen: Cwb) strongly influenced by the Indian monsoon. The weather is characterized by distinct seasons.
Spring (March to May) is warm and pleasant, offering clear views and blooming flora, making it one of the best times to visit. Summer (June to September) brings the monsoon, delivering the majority of the region's annual rainfall, high humidity, and occasional landslides on the mountain roads. Autumn (late September to November) offers crisp, clear, and cool days, widely considered the ideal tourist season. Winter (December to February) is cold and dry. While daytime temperatures can be surprisingly comfortable under the sun, nighttime temperatures often drop below freezing, and the city experiences occasional snowfall.
