Bangladesh has made significant strides in upgrading its infrastructure over the past decade. One of the greatest milestones is achieving near 100% electricity coverage across the country, an effort supported by new gas, coal, and solar plants, as well as the ongoing construction of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
Telecommunications infrastructure is robust, dominated by a highly competitive cellular market with massive penetration. 4G networks cover most of the country, and 5G is currently rolling out in key urban areas. Internet connectivity relies on submarine cables (SEA-ME-WE 4 and 5), with broadband access rapidly expanding beyond urban centers.
Water and sanitation infrastructure have seen vast improvements, significantly reducing waterborne diseases, though challenges remain with arsenic contamination in shallow tube wells in certain rural areas and municipal waste management in the rapidly expanding megacities.
