Parks & nature

Despite its urban density, Melbourne is known as the "Garden City" for its abundant green spaces.

* **Royal Botanic Gardens:** Located beautifully along the Yarra River, these 38-hectare gardens feature thousands of plant species, sweeping lawns, and tranquil lakes. * **Albert Park:** Home to a large lake, walking tracks, and the street circuit for the Australian Grand Prix. * **Fitzroy Gardens:** A historic park on the edge of the CBD, housing a conservatory, a model Tudor village, and Cooks' Cottage. * **Yarra Bend Park:** The largest area of natural bushland near the CBD, known for its steep river gorges, walking trails, and a large colony of Gray-headed Flying Foxes. * **Wildlife:** Urban wildlife includes possums, various native birds (rainbow lorikeets, cockatoos, kookaburras), and the famous Little Penguins of St Kilda.
