Safety

NSW is generally a very safe place to live and visit, with low violent crime rates and highly trained emergency services.

* **Emergency Number**: Dial **000 (Triple Zero)** for Police, Fire, and Ambulance services. * **Crime**: Crime rates are relatively low by global standards. Standard urban safety precautions apply in Sydney's nightlife districts. * **Surf Safety**: Ocean safety is paramount. Visitors are strongly advised to always swim between the red and yellow flags, which indicate the beach is actively patrolled by lifesavers. * **Bushfire Safety**: During the summer months, bushfires are a significant risk, particularly in regional areas and urban fringes. The **NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS)** provides excellent resources, and residents/visitors should use the "Hazards Near Me" mobile app to monitor local threats. * **Wildlife**: While Australia is famous for venomous wildlife (spiders, snakes), actual encounters in urban areas are rare, and medical facilities are fully equipped with antivenoms.
