The Taiwan High Speed Rail, commonly abbreviated as THSR, is a high-speed railway system that connects major cities along the western coast of Taiwan. Opened to the public in January 2007, this modern transportation network has fundamentally transformed travel across the island, reducing journey times between Taipei in the north and Kaohsiung in the south from approximately four hours by conventional rail to just ninety minutes.

The railway spans approximately 345 kilometers and serves twelve stations, linking the capital region with major population and economic centers including Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Taichung, Chiayi, Tainan, and Kaohsiung. The system operates trains based on Japanese Shinkansen technology, specifically derived from the 700 Series trains, which are capable of reaching speeds up to 300 kilometers per hour.
